“Blog Entry #1: 1810-1820”

DATE: September 01, 1818

AGE: 18

ACADEMIC FOCUS: I want to study for a Bachelor of Economics because I am really want to know how is our country in respect of economy, how was it and with this rate how is gonna be in the future.

CONTEXT: I am living in Paris, France with my family. With the return of the monarchy and the resent defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte people are getting really mad and more because what the French Revolution wanted was a democratic government which has not been totally followed. I really agree with people who says that all of us should have human rights and have liberty, because we should be free and make our own decisions about what is happening in our country. Something that I want to change is the way people are living, they don't desirve to been treated like if they weren't an other human being. Right know I don't know if there's gonna be another revolution but if things doesn't change its going to be necessary.

CHANGE/ CONTINUITY: Since the Scientific Revolution things have been changing radically, Newton show us the tree laws, Galileo taught us mathematics and how we can see the heavens using a telescope. Knowledge has been increasing but some people are still denying the fact that it is true, they don't believe in anything that doesn't come from the God word, there's nothing that can make them think beyond their religion.

CAUSE/ EFFECT: I really believe that the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment were things that had to happen, believing in what religion and the government told us how things works or how everything is, were things of which we weren't certain and that we hadn't really questioned about them. All those things bring us a numeral of confrontations between communities but overall it has been positive because with them people start to being who they really are and start to express their ideas without fear.

TIME/ PLACE: I do not think that we are better or our situation is better that in others regions because in France we still have inequality situations because people are living in streets and freedom isn't totally approved but the difference about our region and others is that we government our selfs and about what I know in the Americas they are mostly government by Spain and something that is really sad is that both of us don't have a democratic government. I do know that we are different cultures but at the end we are all humans and no one wants to be government by someone else or have a government in which you can't participate in their decisions. If I have to chose somewhere to live, I will choose somewhere people could be really free even if it takes me along time to get there or if I just have to stay were I am.

PERSPECTIVE: The Enlightenment philosopher that I admire is François-Marie Arouet, also known as Voltaire. I like him because I think the way in which he contributed to the Enlightenmentwas really unique because despite everything he experienced (they sent him to jail and he was banished) he never stopped saying what he thought, he fight for the individual liberties and for the systems that foment those liberties. A quotes that I really like from him is "It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong" I really like this quotes because it defines it really happens when knowledge start to increase and people doesn't know what to do and what you really think (that is right) but the government intimidates you because the power it has.
